We are thinking of moving to the area and wondered what the schools are like. We've looked on the website for Starcross, Cockwood, Gatehouse and Westcliff they all seem good apart from there isn't much info on the Gatehouse Primary School site, it doesn't look as though it is kept up to date. Do you have to live in a certain catchment area for the other schools?

A bullying policy is important especially as bullying is an ongoing problem in all aspects of life. We are going to see if we can arrange to look around the schools to get an idea of what they are like. Thanks for the advise.

Let me tell you. None of the schools in Dawlish will admit to having a bullying problem (because they don't want to upset the parents of the bully's, cos they are afraid of them). And as for Dawlish Community Collage, forget it, they don't give a toss about anyone, too busy trying to enforce the new uniform policy to care about the kids. New headmaster is a bit of a knob I hear and that is from a lot of the parents. DCC will never change, still stuck in the 60's.

I take it that response was from someone educated at the said College.

My child was educated at Gatehouse at is now at DCC.

Gatehouse was excellent. She had a good education there, her teachers were very supportive and they do have a bullying policy. We did have some problems with a classmate and they were addressed.

The head there is lovely, very approachable.

DCC is giving her a good educational experience so far. The facilities there are fantastic and the new head enthusiastic. The new uniform is giving the kids a sense of pride in themselves and their school

My son went to DCC. The worst 5 years of his life, bullied almost daily and the school did little or nothing to prevent it. On my visits to the teachers, they could not give a damn. So, if you want to live in you fairy tale world, carry on, my son still bares the emotional scares of a school that did not care. He will succeed in life, but in spite of DCC not because of it.

Hear Hear. My son did his last year of schooling at DCC when we moved down here, the worst school I have ever seen. And the rudest teachers I have ever come accross, one of the locals did tell me to take him to TCC, I wish I had taken his advice.

The school is totally responsible for the next generation. Standards have gone, nobody is prepared to address it. The teenagers you see around, educated in Dawlish are the future parents .. think on that!
