Royal Mail Signed For

Why do people pay extra for signed-for letters when the delivery person never gets a signature?

Is this common or is it just me? I get a few so maybe they think they are doing me a favour.

The problem is, some mail that is meant to be signed for also has Fragile and Do Not Bend on it, but it still gets bent and posted without a signature, obviously damaging the contents.

When you check who signed for it online, there is a signature, but it's obviously the delivery person's. I'm sure in the past signing someone else’s signature would have been considered fraud. If they don't get a signature, they should leave it blank in my view. What do others think?

I've had this happen a couple times, got away with it and all was fine. However, I did wonder what if it had gone missing from the porch.

Phone up the delivery office and complain. They will soon stop doing it. The only thing is , you will then have all your items slip left if your not in and have to collect from the delivery office. For many people they do it as a favour but for some it doesn't suit them. Dammed if they do dammed if they don't.

@Knighton, I've filled out multiple complaints online but it hasn't helped. I didn't know I could ring them up. I'll check that out next time.

01626 867244 was the number not 100% sure it still is. If your in Dawlish , pop in the office 8-10 am Monday to Friday and 8-12 Saturday.  Not great hours if you work . Or write to the Delivery Office Manager at Royal Mail Dawlish . Don't bother putting  stamp on it as they won't charge the manager lol.
