I would like to contact ex-service personnel who served in Kure, Japan. The object is to seek personal memories and the loan of photographs, etc. of the Kure/Hiroshima area for copying into Kure Council History Library archives. They will then be returned direct from Kure to the contributor with an official letter of thanks and a pictorial booklet about the city.

To date, 512 people have helped.

Any person interested in helping the research should please write or phone me at 43 Armstrong Road, Thorpe, Norwich, NR7 9LJ. Phone 01603 433259. I will be pleased to provide further details.

My late father was the NOIC in KURE (HMS COMMONWEALTH) between 1947 - 49 and my late mother, and I and my sister lived for much of this time. We travelled by troopships Dilwara and Dunera between Southampton and Hong Kong and then, because of pirates, onboard the Y SANG (sounded 'ee-sang') between Hong Kong and Kure.

My sister has just returned from visiting Kure with her husband who is now the Secretary General of the Royal British Legion.

I have quite a number of photographs and other memorabilia of the area some of which is in the Hiroshima Museum.
