Dawlish Town Council is deparate for cash. Despite raising council tax, the Council ignores that the public are also cash-strapped, given we're in a cost of living crisis, instead encouraging us all to start gambling! With Council tax is going up even more, they're now getting inventive in how they extract yet more money from us all, so in this case we can retain our library, air ambulance and run a museum - charities who don't receive enough public funds to function in the first place  because the wealthy bankers bankrupted the country gambling with public money and their corrupt super rich mates continue to avoid paying tax.

And a Vegas style casino is just the ticket.

Vegas Comes to Dawlish

Forget the ethics around any form of government promoting gambling.

Worried about the risks of gambling addiction?

Don't be! Our Mayor, Cllr Dawson, a former Mental Health Nurse and Wellness Industry Entrepreneur isn't worried. Maybe her business Roots Community Enhancement CIC could apply for funding for a gambling support group?

It's a win-win, Councils can give your money to charities, etc to deliver poorly funded skeletion services and should you develop a gambing addiction - a local social entreprise or charity will step in to deliver a session or two led by volunteers, tick a policy mental health box and divert public funds to their Directors and CEOs who pay themselves silly salaries.

The wellbeing industry is one of the few growth industries in the UK and it depends on increased demand, namely more anxiety, depression, trauma and of course, yes you guessed it folks; addiction. and that's where gambling comes in.

So do your bit and gamble.

Do You Need Help?

If you do need help in relation to gambling addiction the Town Council has you covered via their Mental wellbeing and Suicide Prevention Group, where they'll give you a leaflet entitled 'Do You Need Help? where it states...

"The leaflet and poster were intended as a self-help tool, or if someone is concerned about someone else’s wellbeing, they can easily find out how to obtain help from professional and support organisations.

A list of risk factors were included such as alcohol and drug misuse, bullying , domestic abuse and gambling and telephone and websites where support/help can be found are identified."

Thank flip for that then! The Dawlish gambling pandemic has been averted.

Here's some links about gambling and mental health, not that any local decision makers would take any notice.

I have a dream. That one day Councils just deliver public services and are democratic. Instead of being run as PLCs by people lacking in ethics.
