THE Salvation Army is calling on The Teignbridge community to donate new toys to its Christmas appeal that will support families in need over the festive season.

The churches on Union Street Newton Abbot and Brunswick Street Teignmouth will be collecting donations of brand new unwrapped toys between November 12 to December 4.

People wishing to donate can drop their kind contributions to various collection points around the Teignbridge area. (at present we are still looking for extra drop off points in Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Dawlish)

The Salvation Army will sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through their networks and via local groups and social services.

Gifts can include anything from soft and educational toys for the very youngest child, to games, toys, books and accessories for older children.

For more information about the Christmas Present Appeal, please contact Major Nigel Byrne on 01626 369053 or email

Don't know if anyone will be at the Sally Army premises in Brunswick St, T'mouth wef from tomorrow. Went along there today and the building is in the process of being refurbished, No-one from the SA there and notice on door directs callers to their Newton Abbot premises.

Is any organisation in Dawlish collecting Christmas gifts for local needy children? If so, please post on here.
