Another short sighted idea from this council as it mentions more risk from fly tipping which will probably cost more to uplift than having thr rural skip.
Perhaps the costs could be covered if they grow some and prosecute the travellers who leave rubbish with the tax payer picking up the bill.
Another suggestion is to do away with the teignbridge "climate change officer" circa £35k/year and spend the money or real projects such as this, rather than employing another pen-pusher.
Been told that Dawlish town council pay for this service and intend continuing to do so.
At the recent town council meeting the town clerk reported that:
Teignbridge District Council had this week taken the decision to cease providing the rural skip service as a cost saving measure. He had requested figures from Teignbridge as to how much the three sites in the Dawlish parish cost so that the appropriate Committee could look to investigate potentially providing a similar service going forward, subject to Members’ decisions.
Cllr Wrigley told the meeting that: The Rural Skip service was to finish as Teignbridge balanced its statutory obligations against discretionary services. It would offer help and assistance to those towns and parishes that wished to continue offering the service in some way going forward.
as much help and assistance as you want as long as its not money...... prepare for more fly tipping.......typical local demo councilor, trying to justify a demo teignbridge run council decision with meaningless words and actions.
Well, if those towns and parishes are able to continue the service one way or the other by way of help and assistance given by TDC then the decision won't be meaningless one, will it?
So what would be your definition of help and assistance that does not involve money!

Someone has to pay for it and I don't envisage the skip contractors saying glad you got advice and information now give me my money........
Let me make it plain this is more political bulls**t from political councillors who believe that talk is better than action and the public will swallow it.
I'm sure someone will have to pay for it. I'm not saying they won't. It seems to me that it will be up to individual parish and town councils to decide whether to spend money on providing it (and yes, and before you tell me, I know that's council tax payers money).
If you have an issue about this, then as I have suggested above, contacted Cllr Wrigley.
In the meantime, and on the subject of local councils and people paying them money (or not as the case may be) this is from today's Star newspaper.
The future of the rural skip service is an agenda item at Dawlish town council's Civic Amenities Committee meeting being held this coming Weds (21st Oct).
To consider the report and determine the level of service the Council wishes to offer with the decision to be referred to the appropriate committee as required.
Anything that is beneficial to the local community reduce or get rid of entirely on the feeble excuse of saving money whilst those in charge do what they want with OUR money, in my opinion.
The Finance and General Purposes committee of Dawlish Town Council is meeting on 29th October.
