Transport minister Chris Heaton-Harris officially opened the first section of the new £80m Dawlish sea wall yesterday (Friday, September 25), promising that it will protect the railway "for generations to come".
Mr Heaton-Harris took part in a socially-distanced opening ceremony, beginning with a tour along the new promenade which runs for the entire stretch of the new wall. The new sea wall is 2.5m higher than the previous one and includes a new curved top to deflect the waves back towards the sea.
POMP AND CEREMONY AT IT@S BEST. BROUGHT TO YOU BY TAX PAYER'S DONATIONS.
I assume he travelled first class and most probably with a large number of support staff to:-
a) tell him where the wall was.
b) why he was actually there.
c) what to say and more importantly what NOT to say.
d) when to leave.
He deserves every penny he gets as he works hard for it.
And you know this how?
