Over the past few weeks Dawlish Town Council has been considering whether it is possible to hold the normal Christmas Lights Switch On Fun Evening and Festive Fun/Christmas Market Weekend this year. Last night the Events Committee of the Town Council met and decided to cancel these events on the weekend of Friday 20th, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November. This is disappointing news but as the event attracts large crowds to the town in a public area it would be difficult to maintain social distancing (especially as many other Christmas events are not taking place this year).
However, the town will still have its festive lights on in December with some other socially distanced alternatives planned. And of course, the very special Dawlish Father Christmas will go virtual this year as he can't miss a year - details of all this to follow nearer Christmas!
Considering the actual statistics of covid 19 in relation to the governments dubious infection rate compared to actual deaths caused by other causes I find it surreal we are in this orwellian dytopia in the first place.
