It's already an eyesore and that's before the graffiti gets daubed on it!! And on a stretch of line that have never been breached in 150 years!!
In the nineties the wall was breached half way down Marine Parade, the stone ballast was all over the road, the line was shut and wire cages to hold the new ballast were installed. A similar thing (not so bad ) happened a few years later.
I think you a wrong Margaret it has been breached and within the last 35 years.
Can't wait to see it finished.

It was notable yesterday that the waves were still topping the new section so what is the point really?
I think you need to look at the bigger picture Margeret the wall is also being extended eastwards not only will it protect the line it will also keep the town safe.
In the past fifty years British Rail, and their later reincarnations, have raised the level of the line by packing more and more ballast stones under the rails. The area on leaving the station to the end of Marine Parade being the worst. What was a view of the sea and beach has now become a view of the railway. Constant storms have washed this ballast onto Marine Parade, damaging cars parked in the road and causing disruption to services. Wilts I do not like the idea of raising the hight of the wall, the finished product will perhaps look quite good and provide a decent sea front promenade.

Well, the new section of the sea wall is being thoroughly tested this morning and is failing miserably. It's as much use as a chocolate teapot! But then I think we all knew that would be the case!
But the queastion is what would it be like without it, the old wall was in very poor condition and with climate change and rising sea levels it needed to be strengthened.
Just to add to the above i dont think it was never said that the new wall would stop waves overtopping but it would make the line more resilient.
Well looking at the storm this morning I can tell you it has not made a jot of difference so far. Perhaps the finished article may do so but I won't hold my breath in anticipation.
Margaret of course it's made a difference there's now a metre of concrete and steel between the sea and the line it's made the wall and line RESILIENT.
Perhaps you and I are looking at different walls! Have you been watching the stormy waves today lashing over the new wall? I have as I live opposite. As I said, perhaps the finished article will make a difference but based on today's evidence it hasn't made an appreciable difference so far.

The photos posted on facebook clearly showing the difference if any between the new and old wall against a medium high tide driven by an easterly wind certainly are not indicating £30 million pounds of improvement. The water is still topping the new wall onto the railway line and Marine parade.
So, no work on the construction of the wall during the day yesterday but come midnight the horrendous drilling started and was still going on at 1am! Why? Today, tide going out, no one working on the wall but tonight you can safely bet that they will be back drilling again so no one on Marine Parade can sleep! It really is perverse!
I didn't hear a thing slept like a log went to bed at 2330 woke at 0900 this morning spring cleaned the flat now a couple of hours on the PS4.
