The major political parties in Teignbridge have outlined their plans and ambitions were they to gain control of the council in May’s elections.

The Labour Party say that austerity has had a devastating impact on local services, and that they would actively support the building of local authority homes to rent, oppose the closure of the services currently offered by Teignmouth, Dawlish or Newton Abbot Hospitals and use local residents and businesses rather than consultants in developing Town Plans.

Same old empty promises, we hear the same old thing over and over and do they ever deliver in my opinion they always end up doing the opposite.

What  a dilema on local elections

Tories - No mention in their leaflet about bin tax introduction/ rate rises above inflation  - constant bleating from teignbridge tories about no money yet their party are in power......says it all. !!!!!

Lib-Dems - waste of space would not trust them to tell me the time of day -only interested in power at any cost.

Labour - waste of my time typing 

Independents - possibly a good call but gives the other main parties a chance to get back in by splitting vote.

UKIP - As above  

How are you going to vote in the local elections.????

They say what you want to hear and then act like the three wise monkeys when they get into office, but it's not evil they don't identify, but those people who voted them in - if you get my drift.

There needs to be more power for the electorate to oust any elected official(s) who thinks they are to good to do the bidding of their electorate.

Any other job where you refused to carry out your duties and/or not meet performance targets would be dismissed. Obviously not the pompous bureaucrat who seems immune at every level of office.

As to the impending local elections I really don't give a S#&T, they are all as bad as each other and all seem to focus on spending our money behind closed doors and ignoring the wishes of the local people.

I pay 2,300 pounds a year in rates, for what....bins emptied and street lights turned off at night. The only groups I feel give value for money from my rates are the emergency services who get to little of the pie.

I'm voting Brexit / UKIP. The other parties are all liars.

Well i have decided to vote for the first candidate who rings my doorbell.

Here we are election day and no one has rang my doorbell and to add insult to injury i have not seen any canvasing even in the Strand ,so do i at 72 now make the effort to walk to the Manor or do i take the same attitude as the prospective candidates and not give a S*@T.

Interesting to know what the turn- out was for Dawlish, Teignbridge. That will tell me a story.

Of the current 45 councillors, 41 are standing again. A trio of Conservatives who are not standing are Stuart Barker, the current portfolio holder for corporate resources, in the Ashburton and Buckfastleigh ward, Vince Fusco, in the Teignmouth East ward, and Ted Hockin, the chairman of the Licensing Committee, in the Dawlish North East ward. Peter Bromell, an independent who represents the Teignbridge North ward, is also standing down.

It will also be interesting to see how many spoilt ballot papers were recorded, here and nationally.  Yesterday social media was awash with pictures that people had posted of their spoilt voting slip.

Whoever gets in doesn't give a toss about how many ballot papers are spolit. If people genuinely want to protest they should vote possibly for the best of the worst . By not voting it allows other parties the chance to get back in . I would make it mandatory to vote as like in Oz. Its one of the last democratic ways we have to remove politicans after the death of free speech, newspaper gagging and PC /blame culture.

And what if there is no party standing that represents your views?  Voting for the best of the worst is a cop out.  I would rather spoil my ballot paper.

I have never voted in any general election. I can sit back and say "I told you so". But there will always be arguements by whatever others do.

One interest thing I have noticed this time around. Many people are complaining about the drinking outside of seabreeze, where all ages can be seen taking part. How did that come about? Well the owner of seabreeze lives quite near the chairman of the licencing committee of Teignbridge, who incidently has not stood for anything in the recent elections.

Results for Dawlish North East:- Turn out 35.27%, ballot papers issued 2374. Three Lib Dems elected.

Dawlish S.W. 

Clemens out, Prowse out. Two Lib Dems elected. Turn out 36.86%, 1763 ballot papers issued.

Just over a third of the electorate voted the L D's in, and that is how democracy works, theywill be clling the shots for the nextfour years. Good init!
