Walking along The Brook yesterday evening, by the old monkey house, I saw that one of the lovely willows that had been butchered many years ago has now been revisited by talented tree surgeons!
Poor quality pic from my phone, still shows the pruning extent.
It will be back to normal in 18 months and it's been saved from falling into the brook.
@leatash - i beg to differ, the weight in the tree is in the trunk not in the small branches that have slowly grown back after many years since it was last butchered. In 18 months you will have a tuft of branches sticking out of the trunk.
The only reason it is butchered in this way is because it is cheaper to do so, not for any other reason, in my opinion.
I think DEEDOODLE has mixed up butchered with pollarding, the two are quite different.
Pollarding is just a posh name for butchering!
We have experts on trees on this forum does anyone know why the tree was pollarded there is probably a very good reason.
@Margaret Swift. The tree hasn't been killed as you will see next year when growth starts again.

They have done a second one the reason to clear the power lines.
