At a recent full council meeting, Cllr Gordon Hook, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, called for the free parking to be extended to Saturday’s afternoons to help boost trade in the town, saying that the town is ‘currently deserted on a Saturday afternoon’.

Shows that Teignbridge are raising revenue when the RTRA 1984 tells them the the act is not a fiscal measure.

In the context of the 1984 Act, the High Court has stated that the purpose of the Act is: “the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic and the provision of suitable and adequate parking facilities on and off the highway” 

Who put the charges on the car parks in the first place?

Who has continued to extend and increase the charges again and again?

Who cannot see further than the end of their noses?

The well being of this area seems of little concern to those elected as long as THEIR pay and pensions increase year on year, in my opinion

1/. I agree with charging to park for the upkeep of the park and running costs, but I do not agree the charges should be set to cover other costs.

2/. The councillors on instructions from their masters (the unelected officers).

This caveat allows excess income over and above that required for the fixed capital costs of running council provided parking facilities, to be used in the developement of more such facilities.

Whilst I agree charges are outrageous in the season and in some all year round, the generation of such an excess is legal if pertained to the above.

Any member of the public is free to submit a FOI request to see/make sure that excess income is being spent according to the law, should they wish to make sure it is.

I park in the Barton Car Park and it costs me £1.23 per day very reasonable i would say.
