Dawlish Discussion

There is a lot of talk about our high streets becoming ghost towns. Footfall has gone down significantly, which means there are not so many potential customers.

Now when I was in business, I found in order to attract more custom, you lowered your prices. That is what many of the servivors in business are doing now.

My take was and still is that it would be better to sell 10 items at 50p than it would to only sell three items at a £ per day. It would appear (although I have no evidence) that many shops in Dawlish are struggling to make ends meet and are doing nothing to attract more custom.

I have noticed every year just as the holiday season starts. many prices go up. I questioned the price of pasties in a shop, last year £2, this year £2.50p and in crease of 25%. Needless to say, I didn't buy one.

Not to worry. A playpark will sort things out.  

(and I have resisted and resisted posting that until I could resist it no longer) 

They have some hope for that to happen.

If the play park was to go ahead, how many extra people would it attract to the lawn/town over those that already use it now?

Not sure if you're referring to Gay's but despite being on the 'wrong side' of the brook they seem to be one of the shops in Dawlish that does really well.  Often there's queues outside for their cream teas, pasties and (I understand) cheesy Steves!  They must be doing something right!
