Dawlish Discussion

I was in Exeter yesterday.

As I was casually looking at clothes I couldn't help but overhear a conversation taking place almost right next to me between two couples. One  was saying to the others "everywhere they are. Our local (name of business) manager is a Pole and his deputy is a Pole. Can't move for them. They all need to go back".

I wondered then, as I still wonder now, if it was only Poles this person had in mind. I suspect not. 

And I wondered then, as I still wonder now, if this person and others who think along similar lines have any idea how much this country's economy would implode if 'they' all went back.

But maybe quite a few will go back what with the fall in value of the pound and uncertainty of their future status in this country and the like.

And then we will all find out. 

(and no, I didn't intervene and tell them what I thought of what was being said. I am far too English to do such a thing........)

Even if this conversation really happened it was none of your business to butt in, even if you felt like it.

I assure you the conversation really happened.

And I didn't butt in for the very reason that you state. Although it will be my business as indeed it will be everyone else's if the numbers of EU migrants in the UK fall with a subsequent negative impact on the UK economy. 

EU migrants contributed around £20bn to the UK's public finances between 2000 and 2011, and paid billions more in taxes than they received in welfare payments.

@1263 - so if i suggested (or peddled the line to use your terminology) that all will be wine and roses in post brexit britain would that be okay?
