Wow, it looks like there are more car parking spaces in the newly resurfaced car park. Oh, wait a minute...the average size seems to be approx 7 feet, measured from inside of the white lines.
So once you have parked your car exactly square in the space, dependant upon the width of your car, and say you have a Ford Mondeo (width of 6 feet) you now have approx 6 inches plus the width of the white line and any space that may be left with the car space parallel to your car door, that includes the thickness of your door width to get out... ok if you are only about 12 inches wide. One point is that everyone has to park perfectly in the car parking space, uhm.
Parkings standards state the term 'one space' used in the standards refers to standing area only and the recommended MINIMUM dimensions for a car space are 4.8 metres by 2.4 metres (2.4m approx 7 feet 10 inches or 94 inches).
Will the car park be open for Easter bank holiday? I will certainly be down there to see how the parking of the cars goes, should be entertaining.
As to R.V's that normally park there I think it will be a tight squeeze to stay inside the white lines.
I have a Q7 never going to get it in there . Could get out the sun roof .. If i had one ...LOL
@jools88 - I believe you will be able to park it, but unless you are parked in a bay where there is no parking space by your doors or the parking space does not have a vehicle in it, you won't be able to get out unless you use the sunroof, although you say you haven't one.
Although if you do park in a space and are able to get out and then someone parks next to you, you may not be able to get back in.....if you get my drift.
Your Q7 isn't white by any chance?
What a load of fuss. Do what I did, I just bought a walking stick, a knocked off blue badge and I park my Bentley Continental where ever I like.
@majorp - I would assume once the car park reopens and it gets near capacity there will be a few complaints going in the direction of tdc....i may be wrong, but time will tell.
And another bit of crap that local authorities do not take any notice of.
What I have done in situations such as this.
Let the passengers out before you go into the parking space, then keep your vehicle as tight as you possibly can to the left hand white line. And do things in reverse when you wish to leave. I have had moans about those to my left, but as long as I am within the white lines there is little they can do other than bash your vehicle about a bit and I guess this is what will happen in this car park. Blue badge holders if there is a space available will be ok. They cannot fiddle with those widths.
The point is that the size is a recommended size they can do as they please but you would imagine that common sense would prevail but the attitude is probably pack them in for the maximum profit per square foot.
Once again, majorp's venemous tounge has lashed out.
"They cannot fiddle with those widths."
Just wait until you are disabled and have to struggle getting out of your car because some inconsiderate bar steward has parked too close to you.
Calamari, You are so, so wrong again. I have a blue badge and I have never found it difficult getting in and out of my car that is parked in a purposely made disable bay.
Just drive into one and see what you think and then you may think I have no venemous tounge, but you might like to look at your own.
