Could it be hollow talk ,not so sure.
if they do take the inland route instead of the present it could happen that the railway line could be abandoned to nature.
Will they keep repairing this line every two or three years, it won't make sense unless the answer is very drastic.
It has to avoid Dawlish you cant keep chucking money at it ...needs to be a reliable line at the moment it is not.. this weekend is the last straw for many..
Someone is going to have to protect those villages, towns along the route from Starcross to Teignmouth. I don't think there will be two lots of money available to cover what is suggested and to protect what is protected now. Money from the government is normally only thrown in one direction. But time will tell!
The Environment Agency predicted flood report 2017 makes interesting reading. With sea levels due to rise dramitically someone needs to spend huge amounts to protect our towns a villages and within those predictions is severe flooding to Marsh Barton with villages like Starcross flooded on a regular basis. My belief nature will win as time is fast running out with Sea levels due to rise by 1.43 m by 2050 consider another 1.43m on top of what happened this week the waves would have been breaking in Brunswick Place.
