Millions of pounds of road and footpath developments are being invested into Devon.

In Exeter £3.7million will be spent for the delivery and on-going management of two Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS) countryside parks - Dawlish SANGS and Exeter SANGS. This will unlock more than 17,000 new homes and complies with a requirement of National and European Law that could stifle all new housing development around Exeter.

What new bridge and where ?

Certainly a lack of detail and lots of fluff.

I imagine it is talking about the proposed link road joining up the Sainsbury's roundabout area with the Gatehouse area. I remember from the plans that part of the road would need a bridge.  

I don't think you will get a lot for 4.5M. Watch the price go up!!!!!!

I would assume that a fixed-price contract would have been negotiated, with penalty clauses for late delivery.

Yes I remember there was a large bridge that connects area 4 Langdon with Area 3 Secmaton Farm.  I also remember that there were 3 options of where the bridge could be put, and that at that point the cost was thought to be around £1million.  When that information was published there had been no investigation into the ground which is to be below the bridge and therefore the price was a calculated guess.  In October 2017 17/02603/TPO a Tree Preservation Order was issued by TDC so that scrub and trees could be cleared so that survey work could be undertaken and the findings could then inform not only the bridge, but also the road eitherside of the bridge.  It depends how deep they have to go to find solid ground and the deeper they have to go the more expensive it will be.  I also remember that survey work was dependent of the weather and since we have quite a bit of rain, this might not be able to be carried out until water levels drop in Shutterton Brook.  So the figure is probably still unknown.

Thank you Lynne, however, I see that the 10 at Secmaton Farm and the 3 next door have been included to bump the numbers up regarding the Link Road.  This is blatent misleading since I have checked their planning applications and neither have or will have access to the link road, but will be accessing onto Secmaton Lane.  If they have been included by mistake this is incompetence or if deliberately and falsely included it is a pure lie.  This is the same as when they falsified the Footprint Ecology report ticking that there was no smells etc to meet the Natural England set guidelines, even though the site was next to the sewage works.  Do they think the people of Dawlish would not pick up on this deception!!!!!!!!!

Apparently, there is a question mark over whether Sainsbury's will stay open as they are having staffing difficulties.

What do you mean by “staffing difficulties” please? There’ve been no public announcements  about store closures within their estate. 

Just what the town needs to hear, with TDC pushing to build the housing as quick as possible.  

There are no jobs advertised and they have not been advertising for staff for a few months when i asked the manager why only yesterday his answer was simple they have so many folk on the books waiting for a job opportunity they dont need to advertise. Just another Dawlish whisper can you really see Sainsburys closing.

Thank goodness for that. Somebody must have got them mixed up with Homebase who are closing about 40 stores around the country.

Homebase are owned by an Australian company. Still sad news for their employees, but thankfully largely irrelevant to Dawlish. 

Sainsburys are restructuring and they are reducing the tiers of management. I understand dept manager will have to reapply for their jobs and team leaders roles will be changed. 

So.......to get back to the original topic of this thread - the link road (although I accept that there is a Sainsbury's link (ouch!)).

Anyway.......to get back to the original topic of this thread, I see from the report in the Gazette that no date has been given as to when this road will be built.
