Notice of Casual Vacancy for the Parish of Dawlish (Central Ward)

contact the town council for more details. If there are no candidates by on or before 20th December then the town council will be allowed to co-opt. 

Parish and Town Council vacancies

If a seat becomes vacant on a Parish or Town Council, the Clerk is required to give public notice of it. To call an election, 10 or more electors for the electoral area need to make a request, in writing, and within 14 working days of the date of the notice. The request or requests must be sent to the Proper Officer of the District Council. If enough requests are received the Returning Officer will set the date of the election which must be within 60 days of the date of the notice of vacancy. If enough requests have not been received by the due date, the Town or Parish Council is allowed to make their own arrangements to fill the vacancy by co-option.

If you live in Central Ward (which is roughly from Marine Garage area inwards towards the town - but if in doubt check!) and you would like there to be an election (as opposed to to the town council making a co-option) then you must let the electoral officer at Teignbridge know of your wish before 20th December.

You must live in Central Ward for your request to be valid.

1x Teignbridge District Councillor for Dawish North East and Central Ward

D'oh! Thanks Lynn, I obviously scrolled down too quickly..

Interesting, there's one who I'd hate to see as a District Councillor - too much weight thrown around whilst Mayor.  And what a shame it's all along political lines.

Not much choice at all for TDC :(

The choice will be narrower at the next local election, as I’m sure Alison Foden will stand for her beloved Lib Dem party. At least she’d finally be honest about her political affiliations. 

Just a reminder that the by elections take place this coming Thursday (15th Feb).

Who ever is voted in will more than likely not make a dent against those already in charge.

Who like to use Dawlish for their own wacky, expensive and irrelevant projects rather than assist Dawlish to evolve into a thriving sea side town and not a fun fair.

I have never missed a chance to vote in any election national or local but i am for the first time sat here wondering is it really worth bothering.

Back in the seventies I saw graffitti with an anarchist symbol that said, "If voting ever changed anything they would make it illegal." However I still cast my vote, for what it is worth (sigh).

Been told that the Lib Dems have won both the District Council seat and the town council seat.

Results:

Teignbridge Distict Council

Elected: Martin Wrigley (Lib Dem) votes = 1287

Unelected Angela Fenne (Conservative) votes = 535

Dawlish Town Council

Elected: Lin Goodman-Bradbury (Lib Dem) votes = 529

Unelected: Tanzey King (Lab) votes = 201

Unelected: Mike Stubbs (Con) votes = 411

What does vicks place the vote on, Personality, policy or a political party of choice? Or none of those.

At least Dawlish Town Council is 8 Conservatives and 8 others, so decisions will not be a done deal and will be decided through discussion and not by towing the party line.

The below was copied from the updated councillors page at TDC showing the political composition now with Cllr Wrigley on the list:

Council composition

The council consists of 46 Councillors who represent 25 electoral wards.

The political composition of the council is:

1. Conservative: 24 - majority
2. Independent: 5
3. Liberal Democrat: 17

The Tories grip is now slipping, which means that if the Lib Dems and the Independents combine on crucial issues then all Tories will have to turn up or potentially risk not getting the votes needed to push agenda items through.  Meetings at TDC could be interesting, especially in relation to planning etc.  and the Tories will be made more accountable as they were in relation to Warren Farm and the SANGS.  So it will be interesting in the comming months as to how it will all unfold.
