Paul Rowntree, 36, and Ricky Ward, 28, both denied charges of robbery and causing grievous bodily harm with intent when they stood before a judge at Exeter Crown Court.
It is further alleged they attacked him with a noxious chemical - ammonia - leaving him with serious eye injuries.
