Here's a different version of the story.

Committee blame council for being forced to cancel Dawlish Air Show after overspend on Big Weekend.

The popular event, which has taken place for the past decade will not take place in 2017 because the committee blame the council for overspending on Radio 1's Big Weekend.

In May 2016 50,000 music fans attended Radio 1's Big Weekend at Powderham Castle, where both Exeter City Council and Teignbridge District council funded more than £100,000 each towards the event.

It said: "The committee was extremely disappointed to fail in its search for funding for a free event run by volunteers that brings around 100,000 visitors in to the area and as a result significantly benefits businesses in Dawlish and other local communities.

"It was especially frustrating seeing Teignbridge Council provide £149,000 towards the staging of the Radio One Big Weekend event at Powderham Castle earlier this year, which arguably didn't benefit the Dawlish and Teignmouth local economies in any way at all.

How much money does it require to put the air show on?

I would be happy to pay a few quid to watch the airshow, if it was like the old days and not the last few. it's a boost to the people of Dawlish in more than just revenue. I, personally, used to feel very humbled to be able to watch such an impressive air show from my lounge balcony.

I'm sure, if organised, say through the shops in Dawlish and a fund site on the internet there would be little trouble in raising the required funds.

Plenty of people who have watched the air show in the past from around the country would most probably chuck in a couple of quid.

I would not bother having the buffoons in our local council's involved anymore than required. They only seem interested in what's in it for them.

If all the pubs, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, sweet shops etc gave just £100 each, then that would be a great boost to the air show and they will easily recoup that money with all the extra people coming in.
