I found this by chance on primelocation.com and this is the firm selling the land. Kitchener Land and Planning offers invited.

That looks to me like the Langdon Hospital land that received planning permission earlier this year.

It would seem that those who own the land are now selling it off now that it has planning permission and its value has therefore increased by X amount courtesy of said planning permission.

The TDC website show the application has now been completed and decision notice issued. The Section 106 documents are there and access plan for the main residential site.

This land should be used to build an acute mentlhealth facility. These disenfranchised abandoned people are on the streets or in prison. Or wrongly placed in care homes, because there is no where for them to go. Watcome closed Spurfield closed. St Michaels in Newto Abbott closed. Never mind we'll just build more houses. It's a scandal.

I do not agree monty.  I believe that Victorian or old buildings which are not now up to standard are better off sold for residential development. An example is the extra care home of Daw Vale, which like many building will be expensive to deal with due to asbestos. For a residential developer the up lift in value of the land makes it viable, but for redevelopment it would not.  Therefore, it is more cost effective to create a new facility on greenfield land paying agricultural rates, leaving the remainder to fund future services. With the government cutting back year on year, this is the only way of making sure services can be provided at least short term.  It is basically good business.

So what happens to the patients who are now homeless.  Care in the community is a joke. There are not enough homes, or staff to check they are taking medication. Crisis teams are in crisis. When will people realise how serious this is. We are all keen to support cancer patients,  heart patients etc.  But there is still stigma attached to mental illness. One in three people will at some point suffer from it. It's like a dirty little secret, noone wants to know.
