Have just had a leaflet put in my letter box. It is from SWH who are going to carry out, what they call, footway slurry seal. In essence placing a thin skin of asphalt sealant over the crumbling foot path and driveway access.
It reminds of the firm that did the same style of thing to Badlake Hill's road surface. Within a couple of weeks it had fallen apart and all the small potholes were visable again.
Supposedly you can walk on it carefully an hour after it has been laid. So if you want to go out before the hour has passed you have to jump the 4 foot gap to the road.
Also the car has to be on the drive, because it cannot be on the road when they lay the goop. They instruct that you have to leave at least 2 hours before carefully driving over it. Although they do state you have to be CAREFUL driving over it for a couple of days.
I have had the unpleasant experience of destroying a pair of very expensive Pirelli tyre's, many years ago, when I accidently drove over this nasty substance on my motorcycle. It stuck to the tyres like peanut butter to a blanket.
Just another bodge job for the Dawlish resident's to contend with. I wonder if SWH will be clearing all the flora and fauna that has grown up through the footpaths over the last few years, before they put their goop down or not.
At least they had the decency to inform the residents beforehand.
If they hadn't, then you would have had something to moan about.
@Carer - i don't think 'decency' comes into it. they're just saving themselves a certain amount of grief from all the people who will end up tramping the stuff in their houses and onto their carpets, etc. although i hear what you are saying.
