According to a newspaper report "the cost of living is about to get higher as experts predict
food prices will go up as a result of Brexit. Around 40% of the food we eat is imported, which means the falling pound will make it more expensive to bring food imports into the country".
Ah, but those who lied to make the gullible vote to quit, said that we'd be growing more of our own food. Well, you can't beat a bent banana grown in Birmingham. So to speak.

Surely the cost of living always gets higher? The cost of dying too! If we produce 60% of our food then perhaps without EU regulation much of it will reduce in price to counter balance any increase in the 40% imported. I would certainly expect the price of cheese, fish, lamb & beef to reduce since we produce these in abundance and their prices have been kept high by EU regulation. We can only speculate for now. Best to wait and see.
With Brexit I think we should focus more on making food production our major industry. It's one of the few natural resources that we can produce in abundance and unlike consumer luxury goods, food will always be needed regardless of bust and boom periods. If you have food to sell then every country that needs to import food will want to be your friend. A bit like oil.
Lisa, a lot will depend on whether the government subsidises the farming industry like the EU does at present. The Quitters have already reneged on their promise to divert the imaginary £350m a week to the NHS, let's hope that the next government (and subsequent ones) don't leave the farmers high and dry.
Perhaps we could export water (rain).
After all it is a natural resource that we seem to produce in abundance.
The Tory governement aren't going to support the same areas as the EU. There was a reason why these areas got their funding from the EU in the first place!
