Its been moved further along the road in the Exeter direction.
Dawlish Discussion
Bus stops opposite each other on a narrowed road Brilliant thinking !!!
I hereby request our town council to identify the highway planner responsible for the absolutly stupid changes made to the main A379 being the only main route into and out of Dawlish around the junction with Elm Grove Road, and to instigate an official request for that persons immediate resignation on the grounds of total incompetence. The modifications made are unsafe and are contary to the highway code rules regarding obstruction of the highway.
FB Wait until Monday when we are subjected to 6months of more misery when they reduce Lanherne wall and extend the cycle path through Lanherne !!!!
More to the point where have TDC got the money from once again to spend on minority required, non-urgent work on such a scale.
Also why is it expected to take 6 months to demolish a wall which any major demolition comany would be expected to have down over a weekend sure Gilpin Demolition could handle the job.
If it's Highways work the money is coming from Devon County Council not Teignbridge District.
So you could try asking Cllr Clatworthy.
Definatly TDC as they own Lanherne Site and use Teign housing to manage it
The road is a nightmare how stupid it hasn't even been resurfaced and by the look of it isn't going to be as the lines etc have gone down just wait untill the summer, visitors are going to be well p*****d off.
@roberta - it might do, not sure.
Where does Sustrans get its money from?
Info on Sustrans here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustrans
This matter is to be considered at next Wednesday's DTC Civic Amenities Committee meeting:
Agenda Item 9: Relocation of bus shelter at Exeter Road, Dawlish To consider a request from Devon County Council to relocate the bus shelter at Exeter Road, Dawlish.
@Gary Taylor. will you also consider objecting to another 6 months of traffic lights just for the sake of demolishing a wall. i believe there is a clause in the road traffic act that prevents non-essential work like this from causing delay or inconvienience to road users. please use this and stop any more work on this stupid road/cyclepath scheme, as the detrimental effect on local business and visitors to the town will be irreversable. also note my above comment with 5 agrees requesting the town council to seek the resignation of the planner responsible for this total waste of money scheme and the damage already caused by never ending delays in travelling to and from town.
National cycle network route 2 (ncn2). Dawlish-Lanherne. Application for the reduction of the wall and the trief kerbs!

Gary, I must be missing something here. Maybe my brain's getting addled with all this housing stuff. Who knows..
Anyhow, what I am missing is this: why has the road marking for the new bus stop already been put on the road surface (which is how I knew the bus stop was being moved) when, according to your post, the item is still to be discussed by Dawlish Town Council?
Also was a precedent not set when DCC stopped the works on the repair of the wall going up Teignmouth Hill by the Teignmouth Inn until holiday season was over ???
Do these Council Officials ever visit Dawlish or do they stayed glued to their chairs at County HallSeems the Town Council and various other Dawlish groups were informed of this nonsense modification of the wall not total demolition on the 1st February this year and did nothing to object. So much for supporting the town and its people.
Also noted the installation of a Treif kerb along the length of the wall. This means a further 600mm + or 2 foot reduction in the current road width.
Looks like all three councils want to stop all traffic through Dawlish unless your riding a cycle
Also Lynne is correct, if agreement to move the bus shelter hasent yet been made why have the new bus stop markings been laid down. Our councillors are either full of bull or havent a clue as to what the district and county councils are upto right under their noses.
I've just been looking through the minutes of Dawlish Town Council meetings. This is all I could find.
County Cllr John Clatworthy reported to the Dawlish Town Council meeting of November 2015 that;
“The extension of the Exeter Road Cycle-path is to be constructed in two phases starting in
January.”
And then at the full council meeting in December he reported that:
“The cycle-path extension from Exeter Road through to Lanherne is in the Cabinet Agenda for the
meeting on 9th December. The estimated cost is £621k and a planning application will be made
to lower the wall in Lanherne. I attended a meeting with some residents who had concerns
about coming into conflict with cyclists as they exit their properties in San Remo Terrace, the
design has been amended accordingly with white lining and I understand the Town council has
been fully briefed and work is expected to start in the spring.”
Note that Cllr Clatworthy says the town council has been fully briefed. Where are the minutes to that effect?
Fred,
If you had been at the Dawlish Town Council meeting at the beginning of this month you would have heard Town (and District) Councillors lining up to complain in some of the strongest terms that I have heard used in the Council Chamber to Devon County Councillor, John Clatworthy about recent DCC Highways proposals for Exeter Road, Elm Grove Road and Sandy Lane. You might expect that the professionals employed at DCC would be awake to the sort of problems that changes to road widths and priorities might bring about - however even Cllr Clatworthy would appear to have lost faith, saying his officers 'will not have his support' for some of the proposals. So there, it would seem, the buck stops.
But Gary you are talking about the 1st week in April months after the council recieved notification of DCCs plan and the works commenced talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Also as Lynne has hinted why have these complaints/objections never been minuted.
Just as a futher point of interest in your opinion what is the reasoning behind wanting to restrict the flow of traffic on a not only major A road but the only route in and out of Dawlish. Most towns would be looking to improve traffic flows and reduce pollution causing delays.
Fred, sorry, but your timelines are awry.
Notification about the plans to impose a no-right-turn into Elm Grove Road from Exeter Road (as a result of the new cycle path being installed) and for traffic to use Sandy Lane and Elm Grove Drive instead, were not advised to the public or to Dawlish Town Councillors until the end of March. That so much opposition was generated against these ill-conceived plans in such a short space of time is testament to the responses of the Dawlish public. As for the moving of the bus stop, this was only advised to Councillors this afternoon.
Gary - we have now moved on and are talking about the wall at Lanherne and more road narrowing in connection plus another 6 - months of tempoary traffic lights sorry for the confusion
I understand Fred.
The Devon County Council planning application came before DTC Planning Committee as a consultation document on 3rd March.
Purrrrrfect's link above will take you to the DCC website page for the Council's own planning applications. If you type in the DCC code DCC/3831/2016 it will give you access to all of the associated documents.
Interestingly Fred, the only public comment listed on the DCC website is this:
I fully support the proposal. It will make cycling safer on this route
While DCC Highways comment is as follows:
THE HEAD OF PLANNING, TRANSPORTATION AND ENVIRONMENT, ON BEHALF OF DEVON COUNTY COUNCIL, AS LOCAL HIGHWAY AUTHORITY,HAS NO OBJECTION TO THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
Given responses such as these and the effort (no to mention the expense) that has already gone in to bringing forward the 'Destination Dawlish' cycle path, is it really any surprise that DTC Planning Committee raised no objection?
The only question now that would appear to remain is: where should it terminate? At the station - or at The Lawn? The subject of a new thread, perhaps?
Note to self - take note of DCC Highway & planning notices in the local papers as well as TDC planning appplications.
(I take it DCC did put a public advert in the paper re the moving of the bus stop/knocking down of the wall etc).
From the minutes of Dawlish Town Council's Planning Committee meeting held 3/3/16:
