With her (Ms Farley) open publicised remarks about 'outsiders' a couple of years back and still no apology from her, is it little wonder that donations are down as the vast majority of people who watch the carnival  are 'outsiders' and take offence at what she said.

It could be very quiet in Dawlish this year, no carnival, no airshow.  Just the sound of tumbleweed blowing down an unused cycle path.  Oh well off to Teignmouth to enjoy the Pavilions.

@flo - you forgot the two big music festivals at Powderham -I can't see the traffic jams caused by them benefiting Dawlish in any way.

Last year we had no option but to be on the A379 on the Saturday that a music festival was taking place at Powderham.

The traffic was nose to tail between Starcross and Kenton and then, the other way, from Countess Weir and beyond to Kenton. People were getting off buses stuck in the traffic jams and walking along the A379.

Make notes in your diaries of the dates of both music festivals and avoid the A379 like the plague.

Mind you, the cyclists might be okay wink

I always save my coppers and 5p all year for the carnival it averages about £40 to £60 but as a outsider who came here in 1984  Mrs Farley you ain't getting a red cent and neither should any one else give them a  penny, i gave nothing last year i donated the money to Combat Stress and i will do the same again.

The thing that did the most damage to the Carnival was her ill-considered & illiterate rant in the programme which left most of us that read it, including visitors, totally gob-smacked.

It may be a blessing if there is no Carnival as next year we would possibly have new management and it will be  as the man say's YOUR FIRED.

How is there going to be new management? They run as a business with directors?

They can't be sacked, the only way to replace them is if they resign.

Now if they do that then fantastic but until then they have the right to carry on with using the name of Dawlish Carnival and nothing changes.

BTW haven't read the gazette this week yet

i've just read the gazette and agree with @Lynne's comment.  oh dear.  ms purser hasn't done her media training course has she?!

@Duckileaks i'm not sure exactly what they can do but there is a cic regulator and a complaints process.

If there's no money in the coffers is there any point?  Do they own anything of use to another committee (eg the Dawlish Festival)?

Companies house have served Dawlish carnival directors with a notice under the companies act of 2006 section 1000(3) on the 12th January 2016 stating that the company will be dissolved in two months (12th March 2016) as accounts had not been submitted.

Do we know whether their accounts have yet been filed ahead of the deadline this coming week? If they have, then there would be no dissolution. If not, then it would be someone's else's fault no doubt.

I was going to say that the proposal to strike off the company won't have been because the accounts haven't been submitted.  You have 9 months to file accounts so the October 2015 accounts are only due by July 2016.  More likely is that they hadn't filed an Annual Return, which is a simple document that confirms any changes to directors, shareholders etc. and costs £13 to do it online.  And hey presto, it was filed today.

The drop in donations is a good indication of the low esteem this event now holds for the people of Dawlish, the question is whether the Town Councillors heed this or whether we'll hear more feeble justifications for throwing our money at it.  Let's hope they have backbones this time.

lovely picture @ZIGGY.

The question mark now seems to have been confirmed on the Carnival's facebook page -

".....Joining the diminishing events in Dawlish the carnival is the latest one to be cancelled, this year.
. We are still up & running & going ahead with the Christmas Market & Santa Run as we need to raise money for next years events."

and

"Just to inform everyone that Dawlish Carnival is not over as stated in the Dawlish Gazette. We have cancelled this years Carnival only due to lack of funds & support but are still up & running. We where not being dissolved because of over due accounts, Companies House was waiting on an annual registration form containing a list of directors & this was filed on 9th march 2016. We will still be going ahead with The annual Christmas Market, Santa Run this year & Carnival next year. We still need to raise funds throughout the year for next years Carnival & other Events."
