Hi everyone, came home today after visiting Dawlish warren.

Didn't get a lot of time to research the area, but have a couple of questions.

Does the bike track from Dawlish warren to Dawlish use an off road track.

Do you get regular train services for surrounding towns.

Sorry for such mundane questions, but if you don't live in your lovely area, you just don't know.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions over the next couple of months, so hope you can all help.

Some of the cycle path is off road/gravel, some is cycle designated pavement and the last few hundred metres is main road (but that is due to change apparently).

Good train and bus services from Dawlish. Not so good from Dawlish Warren but still okay.

Just to point out that the sea wall path is a foot path. Signs, but not very clear ones admittedly, are along the wall saying 'No Cycling'.

If you want to cycle from DW to Dawlish town then from DW go up along the cliff pathway (that is a designated cycle route) and then you have to use the pavement (share with pedestrians so go careful!) and then, as Huw says, the last bit is on the road (very dangerous so go very, very, careful). In fact I would suggest you dismount at that point.

On the other hand, if you would like a more attractive route into the town from DW you could always walk along the seawall pushing your bikes. I haven't seen any signs saying that is not allowed. (and have seen quite a few cyclists doing precisely that in fact).

Thanks Lynne,

Just for reference... What would be the distance from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish using the sea wall path.

Walking is not a problem to us, we are very frequent walkers on the Brecon Beacons near our home.

We are staying in a cottage at The Easton farm, so hopefully we'll get use of our bikes.

Or there again, you can  totally ignore the  no cycling signs  like the majority do.

@John -distance between dw and dawlish via seawall path. a mile or so?

Trains can get quite packed during the height of the season but if you are down here during the quieter times why not take your bikes on the train (you can cycle to DW station from Eastdon cottages, or go the other way and catch the train from Starcross) and investigate other parts of the area by bike.? Leaflets about taking bikes on trains and bike paths in Dawlish station.

You could also , cycle to Starcross, take the ferry across to Exmouth (bikes allowed on ferry but have to be paid for) and explore the other side of the estuary. Then either come back by ferry or by train from one of the stations the other side of the estuary.

Thanks for your speedy replies Lynne.

We visit there early part of July, little Jack Russell Terrier in tow, just before the young ones break up for their main holidays.

We were frequent foreign holidayers, but are really fed up with everything that goes with that, we had a rather scary flight this year, so hence our stay in Dawlish Warren for our main holiday.

Over the years, we have spent many holidays both at Lady Miles and Cofton farm with our tourer, but now we have a static near to our home in the Brecon Beacons.

Apart from our visit to Torquay this weekend, its been rather too many years since our last visit to your area, so things, at least in our eyes have changed so much.

And thanks Elvis, we strictly stick to guidelines when using footpaths/cycle paths....we are seasoned walkers. Lol.
