Yesterday, I happened to be looking through a Dawlish carnival programme for this year when I came across the pages of the carnival queen and her royal family. When were they chosen? I don't remember an event earlier in the year; usually around Easter I believe !! I remember in previous years there being a disco where the carnival royal family were chosen. This was also a fund raising event were the money was put towards what would be raised during carnival week.
They have not been to Carnivals recently with the float as Dave Farley cant drive at the moment, so they have been doing a walking entry as the Float Crew but not the Royalty.. I dont know if thats a pic from last year as I refuse to buy the prog. Are the directors dressedas Leprechauns in the pic ?
I can't recall reading anywhere of a request for assistance with the driving duties? I'm not saying that volunteers would have queued around the corner, but I sincerely hope that the lack of cries for help isn't another case of insularity by the committee. Maybe it's an insurance thing?
However if it's true about the 'royal family' being selected as a result of cronyism, then that casts yet another long shadow over the whole of the carnival in my opinion.
They haven't been able to use the float because of Dave's hip dislocation!
They had a 2nd at Teignmouth carnvial, 1st at Chudleigh and 1st at Newton Abbot.
I wonder which section they entered under as it couldn't have been the visiting Queens float?
Ziggy, do you know why no-one else could drive the float? Did they ask for a volunteer driver until the usual driver has completed his recuperation?
It looks like Dave took part in the walking entry as hes in the pics on their website dressed as a Leprechaun
