THE man known as the "Modfather" will receive an outstanding contribution award at the next Brit Awards in February. Paul Weller started out as lead singer of The Jam and went on to form the Style Council before launching a successful solo career. Brit organisers said: "Paul Weller typifies the range and quality of British music at its best." The 47-year-old had four number one hits with The Jam, and six multi-platinum albums. Last month he released his eighth solo album.
