THE famous black swans at Dawlish have been in danger of dying out after the loss of female swans this year.
Rose, who has fed the swans for 25 years, has bought two ebony-coloured female swans to partner up with the existing two male swans living at the Brook which runs through the middle of the town to the sea.

What a wonderful thing to do. Thank you Rose. I also thought that the council were going to buy a couple of swan's or am I mistaken. Now all we have to do is fine these people that allow their dogs to run wild, but how to enforce it that's another matter.

With regard to roaming dogs. I find that people react well to a polite explanation of why the ban is in place, and the advice that they can exercise their dog freely just up the road in Manor Park. In all these years, I've only had two rude reactions. We can't expect the police or dog wardens to be there 24/7 so we need to be active citizens.
I know people may feel anxious about making such approaches, but usually if you explain with courtesy and give the information that there is an alternative park close by, you get a polite response.
Brooklyn Bridge just a thought, though I'm not sure swans are classed as livestock.
