My washing machine stopped mid cycle yesterday. Door is locked, clothes still in machine. Being as it was a Sunday thought to leave calling someone until this morning.

So.......can anyone recommend a washing machine repairer please?

Machine is a Bendix BIW 145 W

Thanks

Check that nothing is stuck in the filter first!!

Have you done the basic things like switching it off and on again or turning it to spin?

Yep! (thought about giving it a kick as well - do you think that would help?)

If it is still full of water pull it out take the outlet hose and put it in a bucket so it can drain then check the filter

It doesn't look as though it is full of water. I don't know when in the cycle it stopped as I went off doing other things. When I thought it should have done the cycle I went back to it and that was when I found it wasn't working. All the lights were showing as though it were still at the very beginning of the cycle. I've put it on spin. It goes for about 10 seconds then stops.

(BTW -  ours is not a very technically minded household.)

As per previous suggestions, a blocked filter or kinked outlet pipe might be stopping it from draining and it's cutting out.  If you leave it switched off for a few minutes does the door open? (Keep a bucket handy in case there is water in it!).  Here's your manual.

Have you checked the filter? You don't need to be technical to do that.

@Judith Chalmers: oh you have no idea just how untechnical i am. believe me. sad, very sad. but i have to admit true.

@Mcjrpc  -many thanks for suggestion. i turned it off at the mains. counted to ten. placed a bucket in a very strategic position and tentatively tried opening the door. tarrah! it opened. no water in the drum but very wet clothes. at least i have got the clothes out of the machine!

Have done the best I can to get water out of clothes (come back old fashioned mangle all is forgiven) and have them on the washing line.

Manually turned the drum. Doesn't sound too clever I'm afraid.

Just hope now that the washing line doesn't break with all that weight of water!

Thanks everyone for your help.

Sampsons is the obvious choice of repairer if you can't do it yourself.

Phoned the person whose name and number you gave. Went to voicemail so I left a message asking him to call me back. No response so far. If not heard from him by tomorrow morning I will call him again saying if we haven't heard by noon Tuesday then I will need to make other arrangements.

Washing has now been brought indoors to dry. This time of year putting it outside when it was that wet has made no impact at all. It is still absolutely soaking. Hopefully the heat in the house will help it on its way.

Thanks for asking.

@Lynne

Pull the drain pipe off where it joins the connection under the sink and inspect both the pipe and flange.

That can get blocked up and stop the machine from working.

I know as it happened to me.

Hope this helps.

Washing machine repair man just turned up. Lovely man - I've used him before as it turns out but couldn't remember his name (thanks Roberta). I now have his card.

Machine had worn out brushes. He has ordered replacements.
