Amazing isn't it the info that you come across when you look into a particular subject. Of late, mine's been the UK state pension. And guess what else I've found out about it. Well, would you believe it, depending on which country the UK ex pat lives will determine whether or not their UK state pension gets index linked or not.
For example: A UK woman goes to live with her son in the US. Come she gets to the age she qualifies for her UK state pension she will get it paid and it will be index linked updated every year as would happen if she were still living in the UK.
However, if that scenario were the same but instead of the U.S. the country was Canada then the pension wouldn't be updated it would be frozen. No index linked updates. Never. Ever.
Seems British ex pats living in other commonwealth countries such as Australia and New Zealand are also affected this way. But ex pats living in EU countries (and other countries as well) do get their Uk state pensions increased.
Lot of info about this on the internet. Just type in something along the lines of 'UK Ex pat state pension' and you should get lots of links.
