Page 3 of the Dawlish Gazette today is about the carnival committee threatening legal action on copyright issues.

I first posted the carnival weeks events on this website with good intent on letting holiday makers plan their weeks holiday around the events taking place, also I thought a good advert for the carnival.

I cannot believe that the carnival committee have made such a big issue over this.

Instead of using their website to display all their winning carnivals they have taken their royality float to (which may I add congratulations), maybe they should take a look at the Air show website and get some ideas such as downloading their programme of events at a cost, then maybe they would have made a few more pennies, or even display their events on their website where, I think, people would still buy a programme to enter the competitions.

Oh well, maybe next year!

Completely agree Ziggy.  I wouldn't mind but they are a Community Interest Company.  Think someone with a bit of time and knowledge needs to make a stand.  They are in no way working for the community.  I do hope the money the council gave them won't go towards their legal fees.

Stop indulging these people by giving them taxpayers money to 'uphold tradition'. They are self indulgent and making a fool of themselves and Dawlish. 

Is Dawlish Gazette giving them undue oxygen with a non story?  Is there a connection between them?

The FCC (Farley Carnival Committee) obviously think that they are a secret society.

If they (FCC) do go ahead, I wonder where the money will come from to pay for it?

BTW, Ms Farley, us 'outsiders' are still waiting for an apollogy to your outburst last year.

Ever since the Farleys took over the carnival it has gone down hill, they should be ashamed of themselves. it will get worse -leopards dont change their spots -

This could only happen in Dawlish.

Local radio are not allowed to say whats on...how crazy it is.

If I were to stick a programme for all to see on a post in my garden would that get the law invoilved.

You couldnt write it....BBC Spotlight will be interested in this crazy story.

Well clearly people are not encouraged or wanted to come to the town ...plenty of other good places to go.

The thing is nobody copied their programme just listed events, its a very sad state of affairs when free publicity is turned away. At least the Airshow no how to do it

So no carnival in 2015

TDC will be tied up in a legal situation that they will not be able to give pemission = funny how legal action can be used.

"Dawlish carnival programme 2015" has now been produced, anyone copying it in part or full will be pursued for copyright infringement (watch out Farleys) 2 can play your games. 

In the meantime the Lawn is bustling with people, multiple concessions and a general air of professionalism and enjoyment.  Carnival Week compares badly even taking account of the glamour element of the Airshow.  If the committee can't attract anything more than a funfair and a few stalls and needs subsidising then the Town Council should rethink its suport.  What say Cllrs Clayson, Vickery and Swift? 

Just to be clear, Air Show and Carnival got exactly the same financial support from the Town Council this year.  We try to be even handed.

Our grant to Carnival was specifically to overhaul the float.

Obviously, I'm personally not happy about recent events.  Who would be?  

There is no need to be even handed, the Airshow organisation wins hands down, it warrants support. The Carnival Commitee members are repeatedly showing themselves to be amateurish fools.  Ditch them, they're not good for Dawlish. 

The lawn is bustling, it has been fantastic today to see so many people enjoying themselves amid such a variety of activities. Just spent several hours on the lawn enjoying interesting discussion, watching several of the Airshow acts rehearsing including a fly past by the Red Arrows and a having sociable drink with friends. I think recent events surrounding the carnival do not show Dawlish in a good light. The grants awarded to any organisation are awarded by the F&GP committee, of which I am a member, and a good deal of research goes into each application in order to make a decision. Councillor Clayson is accurate when he says the grant awarded this year was specifically for the new carnival float.

I see no secret to 'whats on' at Topsham Carnival ...very sensible.

I just heard that a lady asked the now famous MF what was the next event, to be told "If you had bought a program you would have fffing known" true or gossip? sombody will know.

Micheal, Is that the float that they D & F Farley took to Bristol to use for their marriage?

Not being funny, but I don't know anything about the marriage arrangements.  All I can say is that the existing vehicle needed a lot of work doing to bring it up to standard , and that is what the grant was for.

I truly hope that not a single penny is granted to the carnival whilst it's in its current guise. Not a penny should be given to the Farley personal vanity project.

Compare and contrast with the last two days (and the fundraising events leading up to them), and there's no doubt which is for the benefit of Dawlish (and has the professional management and support structure) and so justifies our money being spent on it. 

Even little things like the carnival "stewards" shouting at people and scaring very young children through their complete lack of awareness of what they're saying and how they're saying it (not to mention how they look).  The difference between some of these ignorant monsters and the Airshow marshals is staggering. 

The Carnival is over, or at least it should be while incompetents are on the committee. There is nothing in their shenanigans of the last two years that suggests they know how to run a business.  The question is whether the council committee members will have the courage to tell them to take a hike for fear of upsetting the applecart.   It might seem like a controversial decision to deny them given their sense of entitlement but it would be the right one.  

What makes the whole carnival website a joke is the gentlemen who design it made it clear to the people runing the carnival what should be put on it.

But like everthing else they just do what they want the fact that only carnival float pictures are on the website is ridiculous

Dawlish carnival is driven by two people if you are no threat to them you may get on there committee. 

No wonder he has given up on it and i think the rest of dawlish should as well.

Margaret, you say "a good deal of research goes into each application".   What research was done?  Was last year's programme discussed with the Carnival committee, are attendance numbers increasing, are donations increasing, are participants increasing, are advertising revenues increasing, was the approval unanimous?    What made the Carnival application worthy of the same amount of grant money as the Airshow? 

If the grant from the council was needed to bring the vehicle for the float up to scratch and that objective was achieved, would there be any need for any further monies from the council for the carnival come next year? 

Giving a grant for the float is like giving a grant to reupholster the sofas on the Titanic.  I wonder if Fred Bassett, Burnside etc will be calling for their resignations.
