Taxation in Western Europe, compared with here in the UK..................

Okay allow me please to share some facts with you.

Thatcher cut our income taxes in the 80's, and our National Insurance contributions.  This is when our privatisations began.

Britain's enterprise culture demands low income tax.

We pay lower income tax compared to Western industrialised Europe.

Factually and political Britain is fast losing the role of the State, and what the State provides in tax payers money to fund our essential services. In short, Britain's communities are fast becoming devolved from central government funding, hence increases in local council tax.

And as mentioned in another posting David Cameron is using the deficit as a cover to ideologically reduce the State and cut welfare to the bone, hence food backs.

And this “shift” in tax policy, has been happening by stealth for over 30 years, since Thatcher, and it started with the poll tax.  And now we have council tax.

Unlike Western Europe where income tax and a greater use of GNP is using to fund both local and national services, Britain’s local tax system increases to fund local services UK wide, and income tax remains static.
