May I say thank you to most of you on here although not always agreeing the discussions debates have been interesting and provoked further thought by myself and at times new or better understanding.

So again THANK YOU

I am concerned with regards a couple of postee's and their comments so as not wanting to annoy, question or upset these few I have decided to leave.

Goodnight, godbless and I wish you all good health and happiness

'Tis the nature of Internet forums.

have used this and others for quite a few years now, trouble is you hit on something posters feel strongly about and reason flies out of the window! (Along with good manners sometimes)

I have seen and experienced people riding roughshod over the basic rules of forums - if someone chooses to be anonymous don't try to out them, Internet isn't real life so don't take it personally, and for goodness sake have some bloody fun!

time out usually helps.....so does not feeding the trolls

@Andysport

There will always be some people with a 'glass half empty' mentality - just try not to let them wear you down.

Yes, re-think Andysport. Being on this forum is like a family and as with all families they fall out sometime's... I for myself have kept out of the threads with all the mud slinging, as much as I have wanted to throw in my two cents worth, but it seems to me that there is more going on here with accusations, harrasment, libel and legal consquences that may or may not arise.

So stay with us Andysport I have thought many times to not bother with this forum, but what the heck I'm still here albeit been quiet of late. If you check and go back year's, which you can the post's are very different with very few arguments.

STAY WITH US!!!

Regards

John

Duckileaks

You say Internet isn't real life

The problem is that too often real people are hurt by what is written on this site

There is too much bullying - and I think it would be reduced if the webmaster enforced the site terms and if all of us posted using our real names and took responsibility for what we write.

@michaelclayson - and if everyone one was microchipped at birth it may reduce crime. an extreme analagy, but i think you will get my meaning. the forum is a place for people to say what they feel without persecution from others. i do agree with you that the forum's site terms should be enforced when someone continually breaks them.

I too have stopped posting on here , as usual a minority spoils things for the majority.

It wasn't  so long ago, that the webmaster edited an entry of mine as he was concerned about the   legal implications of what I had said.  It's  a pity he isn't so  diligent when dealing with the libelous and vitriolic rantings of some of the clowns on here.

Such a shame that this site is not used for the benefit of the dawlish community and ideas to develop our little town.  It just seems a forum for nastiness and vendettas.

@Lindapetherick - i think you will find that this site is used on many occassions for the benefit of the dawlish community a case in point would be the development of the lawn. things may get a little heated at times, but that is what happens when people have a passion in their feelings and beliefs. i feel that you are not looking at the site in its entirety, but a few individual posts/comments. spend a little time viewing more posts on the site and hopefully your view may change.

Michael - choosing to use a pen name should be respected by all who use forums.  I don't want to use my real identity for a variety of reasons - you choose to share who you, neither of us is wrong and each choice should be allowed and respected.

If the terms of the forum are being breached then it's up to the moderators to deal with it, if they're not quick enough then more moderators should be found.

I said about six months ago ..this forum does Dawlish no favours, maybe it shows the town as it is, but as some people cannot show respect these days, it would be a far better website with no forum and leave people to 'bicker' on facebook.

I say make Dawlish.com just for events and information for all.??

elvis, @Andysport - your two names would immediately spring to my mind as having receiving totally ott comments on threads.  interesting to see some 'post removed' at long last, which given the stratespherically high threshold normally applied to doing so i can only dread to think how bad those may have been.

Another example of what should have been removed in my liberal opinion was the 'Dawlish Violence Thread' which I simply couldn't believe had been allowed to stay.  Spoof or not it reads as incitement to hate, misogny and violence, so no excuse that it is 7 years old, that just makes its lack of removal even more damning.

Having said that, most topics are interesting, local, and helpful and should continue.  I think that some 'downward spirals' are sparked off by the medium of using text which can read as less sensitive than the author intended.  The two RTA threads are perfect examples of this.

I also think it is brilliant that councillors have the courage to put their 'heads above the parapet' to post on here and take some stick whilst answering genuine concerns - well done to that group smiley

@michaelclayson, the bullying on this site is a real concern but this is not just a problem for this site. Unfortunately, the 'reporting' function on the website only notifies me when a lot of people report a post. I do intend to fix this so I get notified even if 1 person reports it. The reason I let some remarks pass is because the other user has already responded by the time I have read the post and the thread has moved on.

Responding to other comments,

I do remove or censor posts when they breach the terms, but lately people are asking for threads to be removed for other reasons. People are allowed to discuss legitimate issues and things that concern them even if others would prefer they shut up. In fact, this is also bullying, and we've had bulling across websites this last week.

Elvis's post was a tricky one and I do apologise to him. Please don't take it personally. I did discuss it with him privately first.

Most of the time, this forum seems to run quite smoothly with interesting topics and debate. Then occasionaly things flare up. But this is the nature of public forums and social media.

If anyone has any queries or concerns please feel free to email me at webmaster@dawlish.com. Or if you are a member you can send me a private message.

If you care to re read this thread Warrior, Andysport's reasons are quite clear and there is no ambiguity.
