Dawlish Discussion

Currently Dawlish Town Centre is looking great.

Flowers, fountain running, grass in good condition, lots of items freshly painted green, hanging flower baskets, new Strand.

With the current nice weather the town seems all set for a great summer.

However the state of the The Brook is a real let down, some sections are drained, others are filled with rocks (particularly the section near the old post office), some sections of bank have given way. The Brook is an eyesore.

Does anyone have knowledge of a plan to remedy this dire situation?

The Brook is under the management of Teignbridge District Council and they are limited in when they can work in it by (a) fish spawning and (b) anything disturbing the water quality that may affect the Bathing Water monitoring of the beaches that are regularly carried out.  Last year's very wet autumn/winter brought down a lot more spoil from fields upstream and Teignbridge carried out two separate dredging operations.  The Environment Agency told them of the dates within which they can start and stop and they had to stop by mid-April.  As you point out, there is unfinished work but I have no information about when TDC will be resuming repairs, dredging, etc.,

The brooks looking a bit sad with such a large amount of debri now literally blocking the water flow. Does anyone know when work will be restarted to resolve this issue? The Victorians would turn in their graves if they knew what state we have allowed the town to get into. Even though the rates paid by the residents in the town is no small sum!

I understand that the Environment Agency will allow Teignbridge to resume works in September.
