The Indie publishes it's Happy List today
In the style of the "Rich List" it celebrates 100 people who make life better for others
This year it rightly includes Dawlish's own Caz Steffens.
Well I hadn't heard of her sorry
I have heard of snooky trust
Question if snooky trust takes £23,486 in shop takings & donations last year but spends £18,136 doing so does that mean the £5,000 goes to helping people or only a proportion of it ?
Sorry if Im thick, what would a charity shop need to spend £18136 on ?
I understood staff work for free, rent/rates were free
Im probably missing the odvious
I must say I was surprised at how low an income a charity shop had, it seems a real shame, I think if people actually new what help they gave and to whom then people may help more.
I wonder what % is shop/cash donations
Hi Andy
I remember that you have only recently moved to Dawlish, so it's understandable that you haven't heard of Caz. Do go into the shop and meet her, she is a wonderful woman who has over the years helped so many people both practically and emotionally.
Charity shops don't get free rent - landlords naturally expect their buildings to return the investment ( Unless they are super altruistic). The Hospice shop on the Strand recently closed because it couldn't turn a profit, which says something about how difficult trading conditions still are.
I have been in the shop a couple of times we bought a open fire kettle from there and some books, I think I met here and I had heard about her brother I didn't know her name nor had I heard about any of the work/help she has done = that seems a shame.
