The Mafia -Leamington Spa Primary School - targeted.

  • Primary school children put toxic substance into teacher's coffee flask
  • Luckily, another pupil alerted her to danger before she took a sip
  • Police were called to school in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire after incident
  • No action taken after school decided to deal with incident internally
  •  It is believed the two pupils belonged to a gang at the school who called themselves 'The mafia', who had drawn up a 'hit list' of six teachers.
     

I know this is not Dawlish specifc, but I couldn't believe this actually happened.

Then astonished that no criminal proceedings were not taken!

 

Also this didn't seem to get on the TV news.

It was on Radio 4 at the weekend - I got the impression that the police were involved but could be wrong.

Irrespective - my opinion is that any pupil (or staff!) action with a serious H&S threat must be handled by the police.

Dealing with it internally just down plays it's seriousness to other pupils, plus schools have a vested interest to try to 'bury bad news' - which in my day was all too often their first course of action.

'It was reported that "the Mafia" is made up of a group of children who had also allegedly drawn up a hit list of six teachers they wanted to target.
 
Following the incident a letter was reportedly sent out to parents at the primary school explaining what had happened and telling them that it had been reported to the police.
 
Neither of the two boys is believed to have been arrested and they are not being prosecuted.
 
Philip Robbins, the primary school's chair of governors, said the school wished to "draw a line" under what had happened and that it was providing support for the teacher concerned.
 
"The school has dealt with the situation appropriately and we're hoping to move on," he said.
 
"Neither the school nor the teacher are pressing charges."
 
A police spokesman said officers had since provided advice and guidance to pupils and staff at the school and that it was an isolated incident which was dealt with internally.
 
"I don't think the pupils realised the seriousness or severity of the situation."
