Thought I'd start this thread as feel sure ALLAMS will start to get mightily hacked off if her/his in box gets full of postings from me and Wondering about the above topic. So, post away folks - but remember no bickering now!
Personally I think the range of topics is brilliant. Everything from re-housing chickens to saving Dawlish from the waves to conflict resolution. Although it may seem to drift off being local at times I see it as a brilliant microcosm of the wider world. "No (wo)man is an island."
- Chickens being re-housed is a bit like offering shelter to refugees.
- The storms are very much a global issue of dealing with climate change, how so ever caused.
- Conflict resolution - well there is enough of that needed around even Europe
So there you have it, I think it is perfectly healthy to see local issues on this site discussed in wider contexts sometimes. After all there are some seriously big investment issues at stake for Dawlish that do have a national bearing if they are to succeed for the benefit of Dawlish and the SW generally.
There are many forum that cater for national politics, all very interesting but not really connected to Dawlish. Local politics, on the other hand, are of a great interest.
For those of us that no longer live in Dawlish, but have an interest like property, business or family the forum is invaluable source of information. The recent rail problems are an example and I used this forum (and eyes of Dawlish f/b) to keep up to date with the problems.
Whilst members are free to express their political leanings, I do not feel this forum is the place they should do so. I, in the past, have entered into political discussions on this site but mostly on local politics or local councillors.
No doubt I will be in the minority, as the webmasters post shows, but I thought that I would air my opinion.
Hear hear, or perhaps you should call it, Dawlish and anything that grabs your fancy.com . Then Webmaster
We have been here so many times nothing ever happens here i have lived here longer than i remember and this winters storms and the damage to the wall is the biggest thing ever to happen. If you want to talk about Dawlish then post subjects about Dawlish its that simple, the problem is subjects are thin on the ground although the carnival/ air show is on the way then the Christmas market and then winter storms to do more damage who knows.
I beg to differ re your statement that nothing ever happens here. Take a glance at the Events section of this website for a small selection. Or pop into the library or TIC and have a look at the folders in there that advertise events in the town and surrounds.
@elvis presley, I wouldn't go quite that far. We often get spam and advertising posts which I remove.
In the early days we had separate forums for politics and other topics but 99% of the time people still posted in the general discussion area.
It's usually quite obvious from the title if it's a local matter or political. If you don't like that type of thread don't read it. I'm not sure why you would be offended by a non Dawlish thread. I find some of the topics tedious but just don't get involved.
What do you mean, "Nothing ever happens here"!!!
April 26th. 100 Pipers lead by John Millin playing his fathers D-Day bagpipes parading through the town to celebrate the opening of the museum with members of Dawlish Branch RBL (whom Bill was a member of) marching behind.
May SBH/Whitsun weekend, Party in the Park plus other events.
That's just a couple of the main events highlighted, plus there will be many more inc Carnival, Air Show, Armed Forces Day, etc. etc.
For a small town, there are plenty of things happening in this town if people care to get out and look.
