It seems in a part of Australia Councils have chosen to impose
a 24hour curfew on cats.On the Mornington Peninsula(South of Melbourne)
they have had a curfew since 1997.It seems an online poll showed 60% of
the residents were in favour of a 24 hour ban and 39% supported a Night ban
As a resident put it there are bylaws that if you have a cow or a sheep it
must be kept on your property.

However, don't get me started on cats. Yes they can be cute at times, but the reality is they are a complete ecological nightmare. If makes me weep to think of the millions, yes millions of birds they kill every year. Unlike other predator/prey situations they don't just take the sick, lame and lazy. They are the 'Genghis Khan' of the animal world, ruthless highly efficient killing machines that take the jolly lot.

cat curfew - good idea but it seems a bit unfair for it to be 24hrs, however once outside they become shifting and killing machines!
It's not been tried so why not. It is obvious to me cat owners think they are animal
lovers. They have no respect for neighbours property the wild bird population
and in some cases I think they take on cats just to pi-- off other residents.
It's about time they should be held responsible.

When my neighbours cats pay my mortgage they can crap on my land.
What about birds and nocturnal visitor?, Ive seen foxes about quite frequently lately, and there are some good repellants about nowadays, a childs water cannon is very good cats dont like being sprayed with water

In the 'dog v cat rights', I believe a run over dog must be reported whereas a run over cat is not reportable. Not mentioning this as hinting at a solution in anyway, but shows the dog at least wins out at the 'pearly gates' scenario. With around 8million cats and 8million dogs as pets in the UK, the bottom line (no pun intended) is that they will impact in many different undesirable ways.

my,my we are getting ourselves in a tiz, calm down dear. I have 2 to keep each other company , they stay in at night and actually most of the day. I work so it would not be fair to have a dog, and my cats are intelligent creatures who are very loving and give the whole family pleasure I have a 6ft high fence around my garden and when I say they use a cat toilet in my garden they do. There is more to life than making a big deal about shit, last comment from me on this subject
