https://www.facebook.com/groups/SAVETHEDAWLISHSEAWALL/ take a look at the recent post regarding an email received by the guy who started this group and the petition
I'm sure he saying it in good faith and I'm sure Network Rail's letter is full of encouraging words but I very much doubt they would tell an individual and not make a public announcement.
Erm, there's an official announcement all over the internet and TV.
It is official, the press release has been released to the council.
The latest from RT is it is possible that trains could be running sooner than the 4th
Just a heads up, there is a train just passing Castle Cary (6Z70) due at Dawlish Warren approx 14:00-14:30 today bringing in 600 tons of ballast for the sea wall repairs. Just a casual reminder to folks to keep a safe distance from the train AND worksite on public land as the train will be splitting in two tomorrow, and moving unsignalled and without warning to unload the wagons. There are two brand new brightly coloured Colas Rail class 70 locomotives on this (one at each end). One of these is brand new and has only been in traffic for two weeks after arrival from the builders in the USA. The train is due to depart again approximately 12:00 FRIDAY if not before from Exeter back to Westbury

Does anyone know If the Dawlish Seawall after all this engineering work Is finished, will It be the same height all along the railway line?
http://www.siteeyelive.com/monitor/bbcdawlish/camputerb86.jpg At the moment I dont think anybody knows the answer to that Stephen this link shows a cam that is situated at the main breach site
@ Thanks Roberta. Theres also dawlishbeach.com which Is a excellent webcam.
I was talking to a senior engineer a few days ago who told me they are planing to have the walkway the same hight all the way along. The reason i was told was as it presently stands it is a weak place in the wall so they will be filling it in.

Railway lines now being relayed. Looks like they are "on track" for re-opening.sorry for pun.
Did anyone see the video of the first train on the newly laid track?

@Flo. Dont you think Flo that they should have built the seawall much bigger as the sea was coming over it. Good video though.
I was quite surprised it was that low although I'm not sure if there are any plans once the line is working again.
@flo.
The sea water has already gone over onto railway line. I dont think that the seawall is built high enough. Network Rail has not replied to my e-mail yet. I`ll phone them on Monday.
There is a covanant that was put in place by the original land owner when Brunell was building the line that wont allow the wall to be raised that is still in force. But just looking at the wider issues if you raised the wall a metre would the hight of the tunnels have to be raised its just not as simple as pouring a bit of concrete.
NR know about the convanant but the sea wall is nearest to the railway side. Surely the sea wall can be made bigger as sea is already coming over.
Probably not but the first attempt would make an excellent Epic Fail video for posting on Youtube. Suggest we try it with one of Richard Bransons Virgin Voyager trains.
Stephen, us locals know that the sea wall would need to be 15 feet higher to stop seaspray reaching the line!
Isn't NR presently looking at the option of putting a breakwater further out at sea to help stop this happening?
too many people with doom and gloom, let NR do their work and wait and see, Im sure they have got all the angles covered and know what needs to be done. Yes Lynne a breakwater is top of their options so Ive been told, cant vouch for whether its true
Roberta. The breakwaters have been suggested by Ann-Marie-Morris, Consertive MP for Newton Abbot which includes Dawlish, and she been shouting this out for ages.
No she hasn't. She jumped onto the bandwagon after the storms. Prior to that, she didn't know Dawlish existed.
She's been coming to the Manor for surgeries for several years. Do you mean that she didn't know where she was?
