A week or so ago there was a traders meeting in Teignmouth. At the meeting were 2 representatives from Waitrose. One of them advised that the car park at the site will no longer be a Teignbridge council car park, but Waitrose. Also the parking time will be dropped from 2 hours to 1 1/2 hours.

My concern is that as a Teignbridge car park permit holder, which had allowed me to park in the car park without purchasing a ticket, this will no longer be the case. 

I t also means that Teignbridge council now has 187 less available car parking spaces in the centre of Teignmouth than under the Co op site.

Anyone heard anything on the above?

You're also assuming that the Waitrose car park will be pay and display. 

Next time your fridge or washing machine breaks down Mrs C, we'll just dismiss it as a #firstworldproblem, shall we?

@Mrs C - from your above comment are you implying that the car park would be free to park in? I think not. How would you control the number of vehicles parking there and not using waitrose to shop in?  It is probable that the car park will be pay and display and with a minimum spend of £10 to get free parking for the 1 1/2 hour limit. I may be wrong, but it certainly won't be free.

I think the concern here is that you could park in that Car Park for I believe 4hrs, go off to the town etc without having to shop in the  Coop. If you wanted a refund up to 2hrs you had to spend over £5. So if OF had business in the town he could use his parking permit

Sainsburys and Morrisons aren't town centre locations.....

Maybe the store owns the land but has a deal with Teighnbridge to run the car park if that is the case it makes sense for the new owners to capatalize on that revenue stream.

If my memory serves me correct it was a subject of their planning approval, that Teignbridge would have the Car Park and a contract between TDC and Coop regarding refunds. TDC paid Coop back the money they paid out. So it is possible this will still happen

Waitrose car park in Exeter is patrolled by a private parking firm you may not be aware but your reg no is booked in and out watch out for the womble with the handheld PC wearing a green hi-vis.

This wont be the only Teignbridge car park going private as several more are earmarked for sale as development oppertunities.

Old Fart: Waitrose Exeter is free parking for 2 hours. 

The best way to find out about the parking is to contact Waitrose and or TDC.

Why not just wait and see as they wont change whatever they have in mind.

Parking at Waitrose Teignmouth is to be free for 90 mins max.
