PRIME Minister David Cameron has said the Government is committed to reopening the Dawlish line – rather than opening an alternative route that avoids the coast.
The Herald and Western Morning News have been heading a GW2 campaign – calling for an alternative link to London that isn’t subject to sea storms off Dawlish – and the campaign has won widespread backing.
Network Rail is said to favour a route that leaves Exeter for Okehampton before heading through Tavistock to Plymouth. But Mr Cameron says the plan is to strengthen and reopen the Dawlish line.
