Dawlish Discussion

The supply of sand bags at Dawlish sea front has run out.   I have rung Teignbridge and they will get more out as quickly as possible

In the meantime, if anyone is desperate and wants to collect directly from Teignbridge, the following information is taken from the TDC website

Sandbag Collection 

Contact Drainage and Flooding or call 01626 361101 (Out of office hours - 01395 516854)

• The contacts above will react to an emergency as soon as possible but are not the blue-light emergency services.
• In the event of flood water threatening your property call the Emergency Services on 999.
• Sandbags are available from Teignbridge District Council, and should be collected, however in exceptional cases they may be delivered.  Sandbags may take in excess of 2 hours to arrive. 
• Where sandbags are either collected or delivered for the protection of commercial or business premises, a charge will be made of £20 (standing charge) plus £2.50 per bag. This charge is discretionary and does not apply during emergency situations.
• It is the responsibility of the resident to dispose of sandbags after use

Central government have today told councils they must NOT charge for sandbags

Teignbridge council however as usual serve up a double wammy

a) No sandbags in Dawlish

b) Charges as stated above by Michael

Once again Mr Jeremy Christophers fails in his duty to the rate payers, but won't resign or even comment

"except in emergency situations"   I think this is an emergency!!

Do you think the situation here might qualify as being an emergency Fred? And it does say that the charge is discretionary even when it isn't an emergency. 

Why would you need a sandbag for anything other than an emergency?!

Just to clarify

The free sandbag supply by the sea front was replenished this afternoon as requested.

I know there were bags there yesterday, none this morning.  So the free supply could only have been exhausted for a few hours and TDC acted promptly once alerted to re-stock
