Is it true, as I have heard, that Teignbridge won't let families evacuated from the sea front take advantage of the offer from Lady's Mile to put them up in caravans for the duration because it contravenes their (Lady's Mile) planning regulations. If so, what a disgrace; can't they just forget about their bureaucracy and red tape for once in what is a very stressful situation for all concerned.
Dawlish Discussion
Plight of evacuated familes
Michael Clayson is already on to it, I'm sure it will get sorted, it's just red tape that is intended to stop caravan dwellers from avoiding council tax.
In can't see how Teignbridge would ever take action against evacuated families for living there temporarily, but I agree it probably adds to their stress.
I'm a bit out of the loop on this one as I'm focussing on raising money for the Appeal to help the families, this may include helping with accommodation costs.
District Councillors are best placed to sort out any problems with regulations etc.
i don't know what the issue was, but I'm told that some families are now using the accommodation offered. If there is any concern still, I suggest discussing this with one of the 3 District Councillors, I've put their contact details on Eyes.
Thank you, Michael. I'm sure this will be of help to anyone in this situation. I'm just astounded to think that someone at the council didn't have the wit to relax the red tape just for a bit in what is surely a one-off emergency.
