Teignbridge are proposing to close three public toilets in the Dawlish area, unless the Town Council takes over the cost of running them

Do you think these toilets should close? Teignbridge say they are not used much, and point out that in two cases there are other public toilets nearby. It would be really interesting to know if you think these toilets are vital, or can we afford to lose them?
Will we get a rate rebate for every public service facility they close, and what will the saved money be spent on. Will it be forcing a local family out of business in order to provide a green space because they forgot to enforce this provision on the numerous housing developers they have given planning permision to.

Why not go back to charging to spend a penny (20p) delay closing them by 12months to see if they really do pay.
for once I agree with roberta, when in Venice two years ago we had to pay 1.5 euros to use a public toilet. I am not suggesting a payment that high but a contribution could be made. In Exeter there are privately run loos that charge 20p so why cannot this be done in all loos in teignbridge.
How about using the community service programme to clean and maintain the toilets and other public facilities, or better still get a working party out of Langdon to do it.
I'd find it really helpful to know what people would want if the choice was to pay to pee; or to close these toilets

one problem we have is that TDC can't give any serious figures on how many people actually use each facility. They guesstimate by looking at how much toilet paper is used etc, and on that basis state they think the 3 toilets in the parish marked for closure are low or medium use.

I think Sandy Lane toilets need to stay.There are a lot of sporting activities around that area, e.g football,tennis, hockey,skate park, playpark.
Also what about coaches dropping off and picking up and the amout of delivery lorries and council work vans that use the car park for their break.
Sandy Lane toilets should stay and the other two can go.

A toilet is needed up that end of town for activities that take place up there. More houses are buying built which will hopefully mean more people using the local facilities. We also don't want to discourage coaches from parking up there although charging for parking has probably done that already.
Well i have lived here for longer than i care to remember and have never used the public toilets so on that basis CLOSE THEM
Actualy a change of heart i will visit all the afore mentioned loos this afternoon and give my honest opinion on there worth my report will be here before close of business today.

Just walked down Sandy Lane, there are five coaches in the car park also a taxi driver made a visit!
Dawlish is a seaside resort and also an area of increasingly old people. Closing facilities such as W.C's is not the answer to saving on the bills the council has to spend from their budget.
I've seen very little info about thinning out the headcount at the townhall. If services are being reduced and/or eliminated why is the town council still such a large, sloath like beast. I would rather see the number of town coucillors reducedthan the number of W.C's. At least the W.C's serve a purpose and get rid of crap than produce it!

Agree and Disagree with OLD FART, its not so much the town councillors its the middle office councillors at Teignbridge we need to get rid of. They serve no use what so ever apart from slapping one anothers backs and claiming their expenses. I would love to see a list of achievments by each individual district councillor, especially the ones representing Dawlish. It just seems to me when they cocked up on Dawlish town council and got ousted they just moved up the tree to Teignbridge district council. Same old faces making the same old balls ups.

PAY. Why not just open them in the summer months when they get most use and charge for them. Or let a charity manage them and keep the revenue.
Have paid a visit to all mentioned toilets and have given the problem some thought. I can see the need for the toilets but they are a expense the authority cant afford so if there was a charge how long would it be before the coin machine was smashed to get at the money the cost of instaling coin operated doors and the cost of collecting the money on a daily basis. I presume a large part of the ongoing cost is paying the cleaners maybe we could have volunteers to do the cleaning and to lock and unlock them each day not a job i would want to do. At the end of the day choices will have to be made, keep the toilets close the library, services are going to be cut we just have to decide what we want to keep and what to let go. I have just found a report from Weston Super mare with the cost of replacing 6 toilets with coin operated doors with a 20p charge the cost of replacement £167,000. Maybe someone knows what it costs to clean lock unlock and maintain these toilets per year.
How about getting rid of a few fat civil servants from townhall who earn more than £60 k a year. Now that would be worthwhile.
If you had a department for cleaning you know the last person who would be kicked out would be the one in charge!
Why should the area suffer to save money which is in turn then wasted at townhall?
How about putting just one steel doorgate with coin slot across entrance to toilets, no need to replace all doors then, and have some sort of self closing mechanism to prevent people leaving it open. If people have to pay less chance of vandalism
