YOUR THEATRE NEEDS YOU!
“Oh! What A Lovely War”

The play to commemorate the start of World War 1 on 4th August in 1914 will run from Monday 4th August, 2014 to Saturday 9th August, 2014 and will support other Dawlish town events held during the year. The Dawlish Repertory Company would welcome anyone who would like to become involved in this iconic production, and would be delighted to include new people who might be interested in treading the boards.

The best way to find out more is to come along to the read through on Monday 3rd February and the run through of the musical numbers on Tuesday 4th February, the following day. The auditions will be held on Monday 10th February. All of the above will be held at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Dawlish at 7.30pm.

The play itself is set within the framework of a seaside Pierrot show and uses popular and familiar songs of the first world war, plus a radical combination of service humour and serious satire, never missing the opportunity of ruthlessly mocking the politicians and Generals, whilst also giving an insight into the ordinary life of the brave Tommies on the front.

The cast consists of six ladies and fourteen men with ages ranging from the mid-teens to the more senior members, all taking on multiple parts to tell the story. There are plenty of opportunities to become involved, not only on stage, but with the many other essentially important back stage tasks needed to get the show underway.

So, you are invited to come along and find out what it’s all about. The purpose of the play is to educate and to emotionally engage the audience with the history surrounding World War 1, and so to honour our promise “not to forget” them.

Oh! What A Lovely War is being directed by Steve Crockford with musical direction by Ian Davies.
