FLOOD Alert
Flooding is possible in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Bands of sharp showers are forecast to align giving large enough rainfall totals for rivers to spill onto their floodplains. Catchments are very wet and river levels are already high. Environment Agency staff will be monitoring river levels and flood management schemes. Further updates will be issued if required.

This is the 3rd level of warning, if you want more information you can call Floodline on 0845 9881188. If you need sandbags, you can find a supply at the sea front, near the bus stop

Does anyone know if dredging the brook prevented flooding?

Last night's warning was at the third level of alert, so flooding was not a high likelihood.  Nether the less, a warning had been issued and it would have been unconscienceable not to pass it on.

So, my hunch is that in this case the dredging wasn't the key factor, but that's just my common sense assumption.  I haven't seen any official assessment.

Michael, do you think the dredging has prevented flooding at all this winter?  I would say we have had worse weather than previous years when there has been flooding.  It would be interesting to see what the Environment Agency think and whether it's a coincidence that the brook was dredged.

It feels like we've had more rain this winter.  I saw that it had overflowed at one point but hopefully not to the extent of last year.

@flo

I'm no expert but surely it must have helped at the start of January when the Brook was particularly high ........
