General Discussion

As this has (again) been mooted as something that may appear in the Conservative manifesto for the general election in May of next year, I recently wrote to our MP asking if what was being proposed would be a blanket ban on under 25s receiving HB or if there would be exceptions and if exceptions what would they be?

I have now received a reply from her. Here is an extract:

".......when the Prime Minister outlined the proposal in June 2012 it was to begin a debate about the merits and risks of the current arrangements. These support young people who choose to leave the family home and live independently when on benefits as well as those who do not have a family home or are not able to live with their family because of a range of circumstances. The debate is ongoing and any views and comments that you wish me to make would be a helpful contribution towards that debate. At present it is not currently policy but it is the subject of ongoing discussion".

So, if anyone has any thoughts on the under 25s receiving or not receiving HB please do let our MP know.

@Stephen - Anne Marie Morris is the MP for Newton Abbot. The name of the constituency got changed from Teignbridge to Newton Abbot (as did the boundaries a little) for the last general election. Does that help?
