THE £1.5 million regeneration scheme to revamp The Strand Dawlish came to fruition with the official opening on Friday.
It coincided with the town's Christmas light switch on.
The redevelopment project was a joint initiative between Devon County, Teignbridge District and Dawlish Town Councils.
Devon County Council chairman, Councillor Bernard Hughes OBE, conducted the opening ceremony with various dignitaries also attending.
The re-development involved the removal of the wall, shelter and shrubs, as well as re-grading the bank which used to divide The Strand from the Lawns, opening up and integrating the area.
New Yorkstone paving and granite kerbs have been laid alongside The Lawn, and new granite kerbs and drainage have been installed.
The footpath outside shops on the north side of the street have been widened and re-paved in high quality natural Yorkstone slabs, and new granite kerbs have been installed. Parking and loading bays have also been added on this side of the road.
