Almost 1,000 bulbs were planted over the last weekend.
Only another few thousand to go!

The next session will take place today, Tuesday 5th , depending on the weather.
 

If you are able to help then meet up at Littleweek Lane ready to continue
planting towards Town. Tools and gloves will be available if you need them
but you are more than welcome to bring your own.
 

Planting will take place every Saturday/Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday throughout
November until we run out of bulbs (or energy). Meet 9.30(ish) for 1 - 2 hours bulb planting  (though you are of course free to come and go between those times).

Exeter side of town being planted first, to be followed by the Teignmouth side. Volunteers very welcome on whatever days and side of town is most convenient to them. 

 

Next session (weather allowing) on Thursday 7th November.

Any chance of sowing some Poppy seeds too?

Suggest that you/RBL contact town council (Mary Lowther in particular) re rules and regs concerning planting by members of public on road side verges etc.

That's for officially organised sowing.

However, for those of a more anarchic tendency I'm sure the sowing of poppy seeds could be achieved quite easily without any formal sanctioning/organisation............. (better not say anymore -  might get accused of insurgency  )  

(Just occurred to me - roadside verges get mown by council workers don't they? Not as often as perhaps they once did but mown nontheless. Thought I'd mention this as that could mean that any poppies sown could get cut down before their prime - and although a very poignant and apposite thing to have happen to them - a bit pointless in terms of time and effort on the part of the sowers of the seeds.) Best to liaise with the authorities then?  

Next bulb planting session - Saturday 9th November - Exeter Road (grass verge opposite Warren Copse).

Lynne,  They're cheap (or even free!) so I'm just chucking them anywhere.

I won't go through the LAs....probably have to risk assess, buy PPE and close several roads per packet of seeds sown! Hedgerows seem to be where many grow naturally and steep banks where the mowers don't go.

I'm going to be sowing poppy seeds in the Autumn of 2017, so that they bloom during the centenary of the END of that horrible war. Why the government and others want to commemorate the start of it is beyond me, I have to say. 👎

Bulb planting now switching to the Teignmouth side of town.

Next session Tuesday 12th November, 10.00am ish.

Meet at John Nash Drive near where it meets the A379.  

Bulb planting will continue over this weekend with planting between John Nash Drive and Coronation Avenue.  Since planting is now now mid -way between the two junctions, it is up to you whether you join from either end, although the parking is easier at John Nash Drive.

Bring tools and gloves if you have them but as usual there will be some available to borrow.

Planting in the Memorial Garden next to St. Gregory’s Church this Saturday, from around 10.00 am as usual and weather permitting.  Planting at The Manor House on Sunday.   Because of where we will be planting it will be helpful if you can bring a dibber with you as an alternative to a trowel.
